   Mount Disappointment 50/50 -- General Information Page

 

General Information

  • Start time is at 6:30 am in the parking lot of Skyline Park at Mt. Wilson.
  • ALL runners MUST check in at the start line between 5:15 am and 6:10 am on race day.
  • Race officially ends at 5:30 pm (11 hours) for the 50K event.
  • Race officially ends at 9:30 pm (15 hours) for the 50 mile event.
  • Limited to 250 runners.
  • We must comply with the US Forest Service guidelines.
  • Volunteers are needed and very much appreciated.

Awards

  • 50K awards will follow Jay's Kid's Run at 1:30 pm.
  • 50 Mile awards will be at 4:30 pm.
  • USATF awards are in addition to 50K/50 mile awards. To be eligible for winning or placing in the 2009 USA Track & Field Southern California Association 50-mile Trail Championship you must have a USATF Number. Actual awards TBA. To obtain info on a USATF Number, click here (USATF membership is not necessary to run either event).
  • Participant shirt for all registered runners.
  • All finishers receive Finisher's Medal.
  • 50K overall Men's and Women's winner:
    • One pair of Brooks running shoes.
    • Overall winner's plaque.
    • Free entry to following year's event.
    • $100 award for new course record.
  • 50 Mile overall Men's and Women's winner:
    • One pair of Brooks running shoes.
    • Overall winner's plaque.
    • Choice of free entry to our following year's event or the 2009 Angeles Crest 100.
  • Age Division awards:
    • Divisions: 18-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60 & up.
    • Shoe lottery for Age Division winners.
  • Fastest Couple Award (given to the first couple to finish, not the fastest combined time).
  • Veteran's Award (given to a different military veteran every year).
  • Get-to-the-finish Award (given to a runner who shows true determination).
  • The Ham Radio Operator Award.
  • Volunteer Award (volunteer appreciation award).
  • Big Thanks Award (given by the Race Director to someone VERY helpful).
  • Long Way From Home Award (given to the person who traveled the farthest).
  • Trail do-the-work Award (given for contributing to trail maintenance).
  • Thanks for the Support Award (given to sponsors and patrons of the Event).
  • Ultra Good Sport Award (given for achievement and sportsmanship).

Parking

  • There is a fee for parking in the Angeles National Forest. A day pass is $5.00 or a yearly Adventure Pass is $30.00. Adventure Pass must be displayed in vehichle's windshield.
  • You may purchase a 1 Day Pass with your race Entry, or contact the US Forest Service at (626) 574-5200.

Drop Bags

  • Please, do not use trash bags for your drop-bags!
  • Drop Bag Stations will be available for both the 50k and 50-mile race at the Red Box Aid Station (miles 5.7 & 21.2), and for the 50-mile runners at the Shortcut Aid Station (mile 40.9).
  • Runners must have each drop-bag labeled with the runner’s name and bib#. Runners must bring the drop bag(s) to the starting line and put the drop-bag(s) in the correct drop-bag transport vehicle.
    • Red Box drop-bags go in the Silver Honda Element.
    • Shortcut Saddle drop-bags go in the Red Ford F-150 pickup truck.
  • 50-Mile runners must have a light (headlamp, flashlight or both). If runners arrive at Shortcut after 4:15 pm, it will be dark on the trails before they reach the finish area.  Runners should put a light in their drop bag to be safe.  


  • Drop-bag options after the race:
    • Drop-bags will not be mailed if the runner decides to leave before picking up bags
    • Red Box Aid Station closes at 1:00 p.m.  Red Box drop bags will leave Red Box around 2:15 p.m. and arrive at the Finish-line area around 3:00 p.m.    
    • Shortcut Saddle Aid Station closes at 6:00 p.m.  Shortcut drop bags will leave Shortcut around 6:30 p.m. and arrive at the Finish-line area around 7:30 p.m.

If runners finish the race before Red Box or Shortcut Aid Stations close, runners may pick-up their drop bags at Red Box (before 2:00 p.m.) and at Shortcut (before 6:00 p.m). If a runner cannot make it to either of these stations before they close, then the runner should wait at the Finish area until the drop-bags arrive.  

Crew Access

  • Crews and family members will have access to runners at the Start/Finish, Red Box, Clear Creek, and Shortcut aid stations only.
  • All other roads will be closed to vehicular traffic (except Event vehicles).

* Race Week entrants must contact the Race Director during the week prior to the start. Race Week entrants must show proof of marathon or 50 mile trail race qualifier.
